NORWICH – Children and mentors in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Chenango County are dusting off their bowling shoes in preparation for this Saturday’s Bowl for Kids’ Sake, which takes place from noon to 4 p.m. at Plaza Lanes in the South Plaza, Norwich.

More than 150 youth and teens, including mentors, play a part in Chenango County Big Brothers Big Sisters and the annual fundraising event. In January, team captains formed bowling teams of five and began a pledge drive in the community, seeking donations from friends, relatives and co-workers while also sharing the impact an adult mentor can have on a child’s life.

To participate, no bowling experience is needed.“The only requirement we have is that we ask everyone to be committed to have fun while supporting the youth of Chenango County,” said Chenango County Big Brothers Big Sisters Director Mark Parsons.

This is Parsons’ second year as the Bowl for Kids’ Sake coordinator. “We’re doing very well for our size agency,” he noted. “Chenango County has a lot of great kids and a we have a lot of great people who support the program.”

Last year, Bowl for Kids’ Sake brought in $17,500. This year, the organization has its sights set on raising $20,000. With more than 25 registered teams currently seeking pledges and donations from businesses totaling more than $7,000 already, Parsons said he’s optimistic the organization can reach this goal.
