Clothes, cars and cocktails abound at Fashion Night Out
NORWICH – Phoenix Project Dance Theatre will hold its third annual Fashion Night Out at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Benedict Corporation in Norwich.
Cocktails will be served until 7, at which point the fashion show will begin. Seating is limited, although there will be standing room. Tickets are $15 for general admission and complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be served.
The not-for-profit Phoenix Project Dance began seven years ago as a way to bring seasoned dancers to the community and to rehearse for performances that have taken place throughout the state, from venues in New York City to Old Forge. The company was founded upon the following creed: “To dance outside the box, pushing the creative paradigm of what dance is and what entertainment should be.”
“We’re really starting to have a bigger presence in the community and abroad,” said Executive Director Mikey Perkins. “We’re constantly trying to re-invent ourselves ... trying new things and bringing it to a new level.”
Perkins explained that they began Fashion Night Out to raise money for the dance company and to prove a high-end club atmosphere could be replicated here in Chenango County.
The evening will include a walk down the red carpet, signature cocktails and an elaborate light display by local lighting engineer Matthew Grenier.
“We’re trying to make it like a New York City club ... as you walk down the red carpet, you’ll get your picture taken,” said Perkins. “There’s going to be some amazing food, some dancing ... but the real star is the runway show.”
Twenty models will traverse the runway over the course of the night, modeling designer clothing and jewelry courtesy of McLaughlin’s Department Store, Skillin’s Jewelers and the Village Cobbler. Cashmere Hair Studio will design the hairstyles.
“We have some new and young, hip stuff this year,” said Perkins.
The money raised by the event will go to the company in order to find new dancers and fund summer shows.
“This is really good exposure ... we’ve all developed our own style here and when we start our summer/fall season many will be coming back and dancing with us,” concluded Perkins.
