Chenango GOP endorses McBride for county judge
NORWICH – Chenango County Republican Committee Chairman Tom Morrone announced Tuesday that the local GOP committee has endorsed Joseph McBride for the office of Chenango County Court Judge.
Morrone said the committee met last Thursday. McBride, currently serving as Chenango’s District Attorney, addressed the committee and asked for the endorsement “based on his extensive legal experience and commitment to public service,” Morrone said. The committee met privately after McBride’s presentation and after discussion, Morrone said, endorsed the candidate in a “nearly unanimous” decision.
The judicial position is up for grabs due to the impending retirement of Hon. Judge Howard Sullivan. Another Republican candidate, local attorney Frank Revoir, has also announced his intention to run for the county, surrogate and family court post. Although no final determination has been made, indications are that a GOP primary between McBride and Revoir will be held in September. The general election is held in November.
Morrone said McBride has much in common with Judge Sullivan and his predecessors, the Hon. Kevin Dowd and the Hon. Irad Ingraham. “Like Joe, these judges each served the people of Chenango County as District Attorney and had a long commitment to public service,” Morrone said. “I am pleased that the committee has chosen to support Mr. McBride as he seeks to follow in the footsteps of these distinguished jurists. I am proud of the committee; it is a group of hardworking and dedicated people.”
The Chenango GOP Committee also endorsed Dowd, currently serving as a New York State Supreme Court Justice, for another term. Nods were also given to Congressman Richard Hanna, Senator Thomas Libous and Assemblyman Clifford Crouch, who are each running for re-election in November.
“We are extremely fortunate to be represented by lawmakers who show a genuine concern about Chenango County,” Morrone said. “I look forward to their re-election and continued service to the citizens of Chenango County.”
