GREENE – Smoke rising hundreds of feet into the sky could be seen for miles along State Highway 12 following an early morning house fire on McLane Lane – a private entry off the main route – in the Town of Greene, south of the village.

Fire and emergency personnel from the Greene, Brisben, Coventry and Smithville fire departments all responded to the blaze, which was first reported at 5:33 a.m.

The Broome County fire departments of Triangle, Chenango Forks and Chenango Bridge also responded.
