DELHI – Bainbridge-Guilford won for the first time this season getting seven strong innings from sophomore hurler Lucas Butcher Monday.
In a complete-game performance, Butcher scattered seven hits and didn’t allow a Delhi run until the fifth inning. “Lucas did a nice job of throwing strikes and letting our defense make plays behind him,” said B-G coach Tim Mattingly.
The Bobcats padded a 4-0 lead with five unearned runs in the fifth that were aided by four Delhi errors. The Bulldogs had eight miscues in the game. “I thought we played well in our previous game against Unatego, and we’re getting there,” Mattingly said. “Right now it’s about getting the kids to believe in themselves and getting over the hump.”
Billy Holden led B-G’s batsmen with a 2-for-3 day and two RBI. The Bobcats host Oxford on Wednesday.
