DVD Patrol
We’re at it again, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol has been busy at work getting set up for Summer Movie Season and we’re just a few short weeks away from the Toddster’s favorite time of year. There is even a team-up being set up as we speak for just that occasion, but more on that later. Time to see what we see.
New on DVD
The Darkest Hour - You never know how someone will react when the chips are down and what will finally happen. Sean (Emile Hirsch) and Natalie (Olivia Trilby) were just visiting the city until some strange things started happening. Along with a few others they encounter along the way, time passes by and all the power in the city starts to go out. With this going on, people slowly start to disappear too. Finally, they run across a creature that can absorb all kinds of energy. Sean and the group have to journey further to see if they can find any more power sources to stop the thing once and for all. Will they do it? Another movie along the same lines is “Battleship’ set for release in theaters in May.

Young Justice - Cartoon Spotlight is here with a new generation of heroes ready to make their mark on the World. We join Robin, Aqualad, and Kid Flash as they go to investigate a fire at Cadmus Labs. When they get there, they find more than they bargain for when the Lab has more going on below ground than above it. Along the way, they find a lab where experiments are being done for Superman and they happen to find Superboy. The boys free him and now all they have to do is fight their way out through 52 levels of creatures and walking experiments who will stop at nothing to get them. Can the group find a way to work together? Volumes 1, 2, and 3 are in stores now with Volume 4 available in July. Also, Season 1 is finishing up on the Cartoon Network Saturday Mornings at 10;30 am and Season 2 will start in the Fall.
The Avengers (Earth’s Mightiest Heroes) - One more for Cartoon Spotlight as we join Iron Man, Thor, Giant Man, The Wasp, and The Incredible Hulk. There are four Super prisons called The Big House, The Vault, The Raft, and the Cube that house all types of Super Powered Villains of one type or another. Someone finds a way to make all of them fail at the same time. Now all of the villains are out and the biggest one of them all called Graviton is ready to take down New York City. Iron Man and the team have to find some way to stop him. Are they going to do it and get to the bottom of the mystery that freed all the bad guys too? Tune in to Disney XD on Saturdays at 11;30 AM to catch Season 2 just beginning. Volumes 1, 2, and 3 for Season 1 are in stores right now.
Now in Theaters
Wrath of the Titans - Most of the time, a heroes’ mission is never done. Perseus (Sam Worthington) thought his fight was over after he defeated the Krakken. His Father Zeus (Liam Neeson) needs his help once again. It seems Hades (Ralph Fiennes) and Ares (Edgar Ramirez) have struck a bargain with the Titans to be freed from their imprisonment and rule the world again. Zeus’s power isn’t what it used to be which is why he must call on Perseus, but Perseus doesn’t want to have anything to do with him because all he wants to do is live a quiet life and raise his son Helius (John Bell). Zeus tries to go without him to strike a bargain with Hades but only fails and is captured. Perseus now has no choice but to go to try and free his father with a new team of Gods. Will Perseus’s mission finally be over and can he stop the Titans before they rise again?
The Toddster’s Take - Sequels are always tricky as I’ve often said. The first one was too long but this one stayed right on track and the story keeps on going. The special effects are incredible and Neeson and Worthington are great. I actually saw this on 3D and the effect was interesting. I’m usually not a big fan of 3D, but with movies like this, I see why the the 3D phenomenon is a popular one. It’ll be curious to see if it lasts.
That’s all we have time for this time around. As I said, there is a new teamup coming for next week but what will we have? That would be telling. Suffice to say, it has something to with the summer. The Toddster is out of here.
