Relay For Life committee to hold monthly captain’s meeting Tuesday

NORWICH – The Chenango Relay For Life committee will hold its monthly Team Captain’s Meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Morrisville State College Norwich Campus Community Room, 20 Conkey Ave.
Topics will include updates and reminders for captains concerning upcoming deadlines, event dates and team and committee fundraisers, as well as the committee’s next team challenge – Paint the County Purple – to be held countywide on May 1. All captains are urged to attend, as well as anyone still interested in forming a team for the 2012 Relay For Life.
Paint the County Purple, said Relay event co-chair Marie DeSarro, is an opportunity for team members to get involved with the community as a whole, decorating their office or workplace in purple, partnering with local businesses to promote this year’s Relay, flying a purple flag or simply dressing in purple for the day.
“We’re asking each team to take pictures of their participation in Paint the County Purple and submit them by May 4,” added DeSarro. “We’ll then post a website where people can go to vote for their favorite group or décor. The team that gets the most votes will obtain Relay Points.”
Any pictures, said DeSarro, should be sent to Relay.Chenango@gmail.com. The team with the most Relay Points will be awarded a trophy following the 2012 Relay For Life, to be held July 20 at the Chenango County Fairgrounds. Last year’s Relay brought in more than $155,000 for the fight against cancer.
This year’s Paint the County Purple has been dedicated to the memory of Relay Media and Promotions Chair Wendie Hutchings, who passed away unexpectedly on April 3. Her passing, said DeSarro, came as a complete shock to the entire committee.
“We’re all still trying to deal with her loss ... her big push was always Paint the County Purple,” she added.
Later this month, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. April 21, the Chenango Relay For Life will hold a pork tenderloin dinner and chinese auction, sponsored by the Emmanuel Episcopal Church Outreach Committee and held at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 37 West Main St. Dinners are $7 for adults, $5 for children ages five through twelve and free for children under the age of five. All proceeds will benefit the 2012 Relay For Life.
