C-Care hosts solar energy lecture series
GUILFORD – Chenango Community Action for Renewable Energy is in the midst of sponsoring a series of lectures devoted to exploring the many facets of solar energy and its implications for the community.
Nearly 100 people attended an initial forum late last month titled Solar Energy for Homeowners, according to Kenneth Fogarty, C-Care chairperson. Fogarty was on hand at a meeting of the Chenango County Board of Supervisors last week to invite members to attend the lectures.
The second forum, Solar Farms & Funding Solar Projects, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on April 26 in the Community Room of the Morrisville State College Norwich Campus. Dr. Gay Canough, a physicist, former NASA scientist and founder/chief executive officer of ETM Solar Works, will speak about new opportunities in leasing solar installations and community-based solar farms.
A third and final forum of the series, The Solarize Project, will be presented May 22 by Jan Myers of the Solarize Madison Project.
C-CARE supports the development of sustainable, renewable energy in Chenango and neighboring counties. Starting in the summer of 2010, C-CARE developed a petition asking the Chenango County Board of Supervisors to support a sensible pause in natural gas development in order to allow time to explore the possible development of energy alternatives.
