Congressional hopeful’s petition challenged

EARLVILLE – Earlville resident Michael Kicinski’s petition to represent New York’s 22nd Congressional District in Washington, D.C. was challenged last week, according to the New York State Board of Elections.

Kicinski filed a petition to represent the district in a direct challenge to Republican Congressman Richard Hanna, the incumbent. The two would presumably face off in the Congressional Primary Day on June 26.

However, the state Board of Election’s website lists a general objection to Kicinski’s petition. The objection was filed by Oneida County Republican Chairman George Mitchell on April 20. The Oneida County Republican Committee has endorsed Hanna. Specifications of the objections were due to be postmarked today.

Though not totally unexpected, Kicinski said that he is disappointed that someone, especially one within the Republican party, would attack this way.
