CHENANGO FORKS – Norwich grabbed the lead with four runs in the top of the sixth, and completed a season sweep of Chenango Forks Wednesday.
Colby Griffin was 4-for-4 with three RBI to lead the Tornado, and he added a key RBI hit in the sixth. Brendan McInerney and John Yacano also collected ribbies in the sixth.
“The middle and the bottom of the lineup did what it needed to do,” said Norwich coach John Martinson. “They were patient at the plate and worked the count.”
Justin Lindenthaler pitched 6 1-3 innings for the victory, and Cody Barnes recorded the final two outs for the save. “Justin was very efficient and tonight was our first error-free game,” Martinson said. “Justin was solid, and Cody was able to come in and put the game away.”
Norwich (6-3) hosts Windsor on Friday.

GREENE – Unatego pitcher Quinn Barnhardt was not dominant, but he was effective.
Barnhardt struck out six and walked six in no-hitting Greene Wednesday afternoon.
The Spartans scored all of their runs in the opening inning, the lone RBI coming on Kellen Komenda’s sacrifice fly. The other three runs came on passed balls and wild pitches.
“We just didn’t get good swings (at Barnhardt),” said Greene coach Steve Burghardt, who applauded his own pitcher, Josh Hurlburt. “(Hurlburt) was fabulous the last six innings, he just wasn’t with it in the first inning.”
Hurlburt gave up just five hits striking out seven and walking six in a complete game.

COPES CORNERS – Cherry Valley-Springfield pitchers Andrew Bosc and Alec Denninger struck out 10 and combined on a no-hitter Wednesday afternoon at G-MU.
Denninger, who pitched the final two innings, also had a big day at the plate finishing 3-for-3 with three RBI.
“They have an experienced team and we are pretty young,” said G-MU coach Rick Mohrein. “We faced two good pitchers today, and they have a good team behind them. We put some balls in play, it was just one of those nights.”

SHERBURNE - Mike Wilson tossed a three-hit shutout for Sherburne-Earlville, who moved its record to 3-1 in Center State Conference Division One play on Wednesday.
Wilson struck out seven, walked two, and was backed by solid defense.
Cole Hodges finished with three RBI hitting a two-run single in the second and adding an RBI single in the third as the Marauders constructed a 5-0 lead to support Wilson. Mick Khoury and Wilson contributed RBI doubles in the win.
“We did leave a few runners on base, but the kids are staying back and hitting the ball well,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks. “We played great defense tonight. We had new kids all over the infield to cover for three starters who were out...it was a good win for us.”
The Marauders play at Ilion today.

HARPURSVILLE – Harpursville answered Unadilla Valley’s four-run first with nine runs of its own in the bottom half of the opening inning in Wednesday’s win over the Storm.
Jon Arnold was 3-for-4 with three RBI to pace the Hornets. Harpursville took advantage of two UV errors and four walks in stringing together its early rally.
UV’s Brandon Kuhn was 2-for-4 with two RBI; Cory Montgomery and Justin Hofer also had two hits.

OXFORD – Oxford junior Andrew Golden threw his second straight complete game as the Blackhawks downed Bainbridge-Guilford Wednesday.
Golden struck out six and walked two. In the third through sixth innings, Golden used just 34 pitches to record the 12 outs. “He really was in control in the middle part of the game,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer summing up Golden’s night.
Richard Ryan had a run-scoring double in the second to give Oxford the lead for good. Ryan was 2-for-4 with two RBI, Cameron Heggie had two hits and two runs scored, and Adam Pierson finished with two runs scored and two stolen bases.
Billy Holden had an RBI single in the first inning to give B-G the early lead.

AFTON - Afton ran out of innings as its late comeback against Walton fell short Wednesday.
Nick Shiels was 3-for-4 with three runs to lead Walton, who led 7-0 after two innings, and built the lead to 10-0 heading to the bottom of the fifth.
Afton had a pair of three-run innings in the fifth and sixth highlighted by Cameron Oswald’s two-run triple.
“We had our shots on offense, and I don’t know how many guys we left on base,” said Afton coach Ron Rapp. “We were battling back, but you can’t wait until the last couple of innings.”

GREENE – Rebecca Hanrahan threw the second perfect game of her four-year varsity career and ninth no-hitter overall as Greene won for the second time in as many nights.
Hanrahan struck out 10 in six innings and was dominant from the start, said Greene head coach Rick Smith. “This is the second game in a row that Becca didn’t walk anyone, and it’s the second game in a row we didn’t make an error,” Smith said. “In earlier games we were dealing with passed balls, walks, and errors. We’re starting to clean those up.”
Taylor Ellis and Caitlin Willis hit back-to-back homers in the fifth inning. Ellis hit a two-run shot to highlight her 5-for-5 day that included five RBI, and Willis went deep for a solo shot finishing 3-for-4. Natalie Greene also went 3-for-4 driving in two runs.
Greene upended Hancock 3-1 on Tuesday evening behind 11 strikeouts from Hanrahan. The Trojans took the lead with a single run in the sixth. Hanrahan singled, one of her three hits, and stole second. Morgan Ellis reached on an error, and Hanrahan came home with her team’s second run.
The Trojans (7-2) are at B-G Friday.

CHENANGO FORKS - Despite outhitting Chenango Forks 10-3, Norwich dropped its second straight game on Wednesday.
Chenango Forks capitalized on nine Norwich walks over the fourth and fifth innings to put eight runs on the board. Kayla DeMinis added a three-run homer in the fifth to pad the Devils’ advantage.
“It was mind boggling,” said Norwich coach Scott Moore of his team’s troubles scoring runs. “We got runners on base, but we couldn’t tie the hits together.”
Shelby Condon led Norwich with a 3-for-4 day and two doubles. Molly Moore and Shannon Moore each had two hits.
Norwich hosts Windsor today.

Sam McCarthy had two hits - each a triple - and drove in two runs to lead the Raiders. Josie Sgarlatta was 3-for-5, while Julia Collins and Emily Fox had two-hit days for the victors.
S-E capitalized on seven Canastota walks and four errors to build a 4-1 lead early on. Grace Dunshee stole four bases and scored two runs for Marauders.

Jenny Mason was 3-for-4 to pace the Raiders (6-2), and Alicia Sebeck had two hits, two RBI, and three runs scored.
Marissa Melrose picked up the victory scattering six hits. “Marissa has been solid for us every time we’ve put her in,” said G-MU coach Tina Cole. “She puts the ball over the plate, and we did a nice job of playing defense.”

OXFORD – Oxford pitcher Jacquelyn Heggie gave up a single run in the first inning, then tossed goose eggs the rest of the way pitching a two-hitter in the Blackhawks’ MAC victory over B-G Wednesday.
Heggie had 10 strikeouts and did not walk a batter. Lacey Barry and Julianne Heggie each went 3-for-4 in the victory, and Megan Golden added two hits.
Oxford snapped a 1-1 tie with three runs in the fifth. Julianne Heggie had an RBI single, and an error on Kristen Stoddard’s groundball added two more runs.
“Jacquelyn had some early strikeouts, and later in the game our defense played well behind her,” said Oxford coach Heather Pizza. “We made some key catches in the outfield.”

NORWICH – Norwich plowed forward toward a STAC Central Division matchup with division leader Owego sweeping the three doubles matches in a victory over visiting Oneonta Wednesday.
The Tornado doubles teams all won in straight sets and gave up a combined four games. Bill Whaley and Julian Gillner, playing a second doubles, did not surrender a single game. “The full lineup was back today, and this is the one we’d like to go forward with,” said Norwich coach John Stewart, whose club improved to 5-1 on the season. “The whole gig now is to keep the lineup strong and tight and playing well.”
Norwich is at Chenango Forks today and visits Windsor on Friday.

COPES CORNERS – G-MU took advantage of 13 base on balls and three hit batters using the extra baserunners to build a big lead on Cherry Valley-Springfield in Thursday’s Tri-Valley League win.
Jenny Mason was 3-for-4 to pace the Raiders (6-2), and Alicia Sebeck had two hits, two RBI, and three runs scored.
Marissa Melrose picked up the victory scattering six hits. “Marissa has been solid for us every time we’ve put her in,” said G-MU coach Tina Cole. “She puts the ball over the plate, and we did a nice job of playing defense.”

OXFORD – Oxford pitcher Jacquelyn Heggie gave up a single run in the first inning, then tossed goose eggs the rest of the way pitching a two-hitter in the Blackhawks’ MAC victory over B-G Wednesday.
Heggie had 10 strikeouts and did not walk a batter. Lacey Barry and Julianne Heggie each went 3-for-4 in the victory, and Megan Golden added two hits.
Oxford snapped a 1-1 tie with three runs in the fifth. Julianne Heggie had an RBI single, and an error on Kristen Stoddard’s groundball added two more runs.
“Jacquelyn had some early strikeouts, and later in the game our defense played well behind her,” said Oxford coach Heather Pizza. “We made some key catches in the outfield.”
Oxford is at Unadilla Valley Friday.

NORWICH – Norwich plowed forward toward a STAC Central Division matchup with division leader Owego sweeping the three doubles matches in a victory over visiting Oneonta Wednesday.
The Tornado doubles teams all won in straight sets and gave up a combined four games. Bill Whaley and Julian Gillner, playing a second doubles, did not surrender a single game. “The full lineup was back today, and this is the one we’d like to go forward with,” said Norwich coach John Stewart, whose club improved to 5-1 on the season. “The whole gig now is to keep the lineup strong and tight and playing well.”
Norwich is at Chenango Forks today and visits Windsor on Friday.
