Other neighbor in horse shootings arrested
NEW BERLIN – The man whose six horses were shot and killed in a neighbor vs. neighbor dispute was arrested himself Thursday.
New York State Police say Joseph Mocco Jr., 68, of 612 Hunts Pond Road, New Berlin, has been charged with one count of unlawfully allowing a breeding animal to roam, a violation of Section 95 of the NYS Agriculture and Markets Law. Troopers say a bull owned by Mocco was found on his neighbor’s property without consent of the land owner.
Earlier this week, state troopers arrested Lauren McMaster, 75, also of Hunts Pond Road, New Berlin, and charged him with six counts each of criminal mischief, a class D felony, and cruelty to animals, a class A misdemeanor. McMaster is accused of fatally shooting six of Mocco’s horses that had wandered onto his property. Police characterized the incidents as an ongoing dispute between neighbors.
