Foulds wins two junior college national titles
ALFRED – SUNY Delhi sophomore, Tyler Foulds (Unadilla Valley) won two national titles and earned all-American honors in three events at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Track and Field National Championships last weekend at Alfred.
Foulds threw personal-bests in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw finishing first in the shot and disc, and second in the hammer throw. “The shot put was probably the best competition of the entire championships,” said Foulds’ coach at Delhi, Justin Wood. “Tyler entered the shot put ranked first, so he was the last thrower to go. The athlete in front of Tyler, on his last throw, threw 14.57 (meters) to take the lead. On Tyler’s last throw, he stepped up big to throw 14.64 meters.”
Foulds eclipsed his personal best in the hammer throw by over 3 1/2 meters with a throw of 49.07 meters. In the discus, he surpassed his best throw of 44.04 meters with a toss of 44.82. meters.
Foulds helped Delhi to a second-place team finish in the national standings, five points behind Harper College. “Tyler has matured an incredible amount since his freshman year,” Wood said. “As a freshman he failed to make the finals at nationals in the shot put and discus. This year he made the final and competed at the highest level to win national titles. I'm extremely proud to have had the opportunity to coach such a great young man, and I'm excited for his future.”
