After rejected plea deal, Pothos one step closer to trial
NORWICH – A disposition has yet to be reached in the case against alleged felon Vasilios Pothos, charged with fourth degree conspiracy – a class E felony – in September of 2011.
The 61-year-old Town of German resident remains in custody at the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $100,000 cash bail, accused of conspiring with another person to commit the crime of third degree arson – a class C felony – in an alleged attempt to hire another individual to set fire to a vehicle.
On Monday, Pothos made yet another appearance in Chenango County Court, where he turned down a proposed plea bargain, setting the wheels in motion for a possible trial in the near future.
Pothos was originally indicted by a Chenango County Grand Jury on Sept. 22 in connection with the alleged crime. A warrant was subsequently issued and he was taken into custody by members of the Chenango and Cortland County Sheriff’s offices.
According to Chenango County First Assistant District Attorney Stephen Dunshee, Pothos has ties outside the country and while no order of protection has been issued, the case does involve confidential informants whose safety must be maintained.
If convicted, Pothos could face up to four years in state prison. He will re-appear in court June 1.
