Second career ace for Johnson

PLYMOUTH – Practicing for the Section IV Class B golf team tournament, Norwich seventh-grader Ryan Johnson was perfect on the 12th hole Tuesday afternoon at Canasawacta Country Club.

Playing from the modified men’s tees measuring approximately 130 yards, Johnson used a 6-iron that struck about 15 feet short of the pin and one-hopped into the hole. More impressive, it was the Norwich middle schooler’s second career ace. “There are a lot of really good golfers out there who have never had one,” said Norwich coach Bob Branham. “There is a little luck, but certainly skill was involved.”

Johnson’s hole-in-one was also a first for Branham, who had never witnessed someone else’s ace. Branham and Norwich golfers Ryan Hagen, Eric Walling, and Ricky Runyon also bore witness to the historic shot. “You never know when (a hole-in-one) is going to happen,” Branham said. “It’s kind of neat as his coach to see him pull it off.”
