Accused New Berlin horse killer indicted on felony charges

NORWICH – A Town of New Berlin man accused of shooting and killing six of his neighbor’s horses was indicted by a Chenango County Grand Jury Wednesday, charged with six counts of second degree criminal mischief, a class D felony, and one count of tampering with physical evidence, an E felony.

Lauren L. McMaster, 75, was originally charged on April 29 following a New York State Police investigation into the shootings. Authorities allege that McMaster shot the animals on two separate occasions using a 12-gauge shotgun. He was arraigned in the Town of Columbus Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $500 cash bail.

He has since posted bail and will appear in Chenango County Court at a later date.
