NORWICH – This school year the Career Academy Student Government, with the generous assistance of DCMO BOCES Instructors Donielle Macy, Tarra Barnhart and students in the Conservation and Equipment Technology program, cultivated over 3,000 vegetable plants in the greenhouse at the Harrold Campus in Masonville. With the coordination of New Beginning Food Pantry and Delaware Opportunities Incorporated, these plants have been distributed to WIC recipients and 18 different food pantries in the area. The old adage “Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” is the inspiration behind the students’ gift of a garden that supplies families with food all summer and fall. The funding for this project was secured by Anne Walters, BOCES school-based counselor, through a Learn and Serve school-based grant sponsored by DCMO BOCES and The Place in Norwich. Career Academy Student Government and staff advisors Brandon Fisher and Sharon Fisher wish to extend a hearty thank you to all who assisted in making this project a success.
