AMERICAN LEGION
Norwich-Oxford 1, Harpursville 0
NORWICH – Cody Barnes pitched a near perfect game for Norwich-Oxford last week tossing a two-hit complete-game shutout in an American Legion victory over Harpursville.
Barnes struck out 16 batters, walked none, and did not have a single two-ball count against any of the 24 Harpursville batters he faced. “Cody was relaxed and composed, and that was the most focused I have seen him on the mound,” said Norwich-Oxford coach Steve Griffin. “He got stronger as the game went on, and he mixed in his off-speed pitches well.”
Five of Barnes’ strikeouts were looking on off-speed curveballs, Griffin said.
The lone run was scored in the fifth inning. Robbie Wheeler singled and stole second base. He moved to third on Ryan Moore’s deep flyout to centerfield, and scored on John Yacano’s single to right field.
Norwich-Oxford’s record improved to 4-2.
