Hanna, Kicinski face off in Primary today

NORWICH – The federal primary election takes place today, with the polls opening in Chenango County’s municipalities at noon. Voting takes place until 9 p.m.
The only local action is in the 22nd District, where U.S. Congressman Richard L. Hanna, of Barneveld, and Michael J. Kicinski Sr., of Earlville, vie for the GOP nomination.
The Chenango County Republican Committee unanimously endorsed Hanna in April. Hanna is also backed by the Independence Party of New York State and received support from the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund.
Hanna successfully operated the construction company Hanna Construction for nearly 30 years, growing to employ more than 450 people at one time. In his two years in office, the Congressman has compiled a moderate voting record for a Republican. Progressive Punch ranks him the 205th most progressive representative based on critical votes, which places him to the left of all but 14 Republicans.
Kicinski, an electronics engineer, has said he is running for Congress to turn things around and to relieve citizens of overburdening taxes and regulations. He is endorsed by Carl Paladino, Doug Hoffman, New York State Right to Life, and New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms. He said he and his wife and children plan to vote around 12:30 p.m. at the Village of Earlville Village Hall, located at 8 North Main Street.
