Celebrate 6OTS’ fifth anniversary with Vance Gilbert
OXFORD – Saturday, at 7:30 pm, 6 On The Square (6OTS) is celebrating their fifth anniversary featuring the ever incomparable Vance Gilbert. Back by popular demand, this gifted, contemporary “folk” performer has it all: tenor vocals fluid and enthralling, masterful guitar skills, whimsical sense of humor, and lyrical eloquence. Along with this fine entertainer, there will be great raffles as well as cake for the celebration!
Vance Gilbert burst onto the singer/songwriter scene in the early 90’s when the buzz started spreading in the folk clubs of Boston about an ex-jazz singer who was knocking ‘em dead at open mikes. The word spread of this Philadelphia-area born and raised performer to New York where Shawn Colvin invited Vance to be a special guest on her Fat City tour. Gilbert took audiences across the country by storm and the rest is… history!
“With the voice of an angel, the wit of a devil, and the guitar playing of a god….” — Fort Worth Star-Telegram
With ten albums under his belt, Gilbert’s sophisticated melodies have developed into a nice fusion of folk, pop, jazz, R&B, and gospel. His themes range widely from life to love; politics to religion, and then beyond. Vance’s latest album came out last fall, “Old White Men.” Prior to this release, Gilbert spent a year and a half traveling with the late, comedic genius George Carlin.
Along with a razor sharp wit, Vance is one of the most entertaining singer-songwriters you’ll ever see, but, he can deftly change the mood of a show in an instant with a sincere delivery of one of his deep-flowing songs. His passionate vocal delivery of soul wrenching lyrics will give you a feeling of utter joy.
One fan wrote, “Go see Vance in concert whenever he’s within two hundred miles of your place. He’s the only thing like him, period.”
Don’t miss this great evening of fun on this special anniversary, with this incredible performer… they’ll even have yummy cake! Purchase tickets on-line at the discounted price of $20 (plus a $2 service fee), until the day of the show; $25 at the door. Sorry, no “Buy 6!” tickets allowed for this performance. Ticket price for students is always $2; please call to make a student reservation! Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
About the raffles: the winner of the Grand 50/50 Raffle drawing may win as much as $1,000! Only 200 numbered tickets were printed (at $10 each), and there are a few left. Second prize will be a basket of goodies, which includes a 6OTS t-shirt, a 6OTS mug and one pound of coffee, a hand-crafted wooden coffee scoop made by Loren Rademacher, assorted CDS from many performers, and a wooden toy from Knapp Knoll Woodworks.
