Two injured, one seriously, in motorcycle accident
PLYMOUTH – Two individuals involved in what authorities believe was a deer versus motorcycle accident Tuesday night remain hospitalized, one in serious condition, as an investigation into the crash continues.
Emergency personnel received the 911 call at approximately 8:18 p.m., responding to 261 County Road 44, near the Canasawacta Country Club pavilion. The driver, who sustained “serious injuries,” according to Norwich Fire Department Chief Tracy Chawgo, was transported to Sherburne before being airlifted to Upstate Medical in Syracuse. A female passenger was transported via Norwich Ambulance to Chenango Memorial Hospital.
The names of those involved have not been released and further details were unavailable as of press time.
According to Chawgo, last year’s mild winter has resulted in a booming deer population in Chenango County.
“We have seen a ton of deer versus motor vehicle accidents,” he added. “It’s one of those things; the deer is right there, you’re going to hit it and that’s all you can do.”
Chawgo said a local doctor, golfing at the time of the accident, assisted on the scene. The Norwich and Plymouth fire departments responded to the accident, with assistance provided by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.
