Still time to sign up for the 7th annual Mary Jane Prindle Golf Tournament to benefit Hospice

OXFORD – Now celebrating its seventh year, the Mary Jane Prindle Golf Tournament is making its way to a new locale – the Blue Stone Golf Course – while it continues to raise money for Hospice of Chenango County.

Since 2006, the annual event has brought in more than $36,000, according to organizers; funds that are vital to Hospice’s goal of providing physical, emotional and spiritual care for patients and families dealing with a life-limiting illness, according to Donna Wood-Craig, development and community relations coordinator with the local Hospice.

And it’s not too late to participate, she added, as sign-ups will be held through Thursday. The tournament’s format, as in years past, is captain and crew, costing $300 per team. For that, golfers will enjoy 18 holes of golf, with carts provided, prizes and a 5:30 p.m. dinner. Registration – and the putting contest – will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, and additional challenges will include longest drive and closest to the pin contests.

The tournament, held yearly in honor of the late Mary Jane Prindle, is an emotional one – and a special one – for many, said Wood-Craig.

“Mary Jane Prindle became a Hospice patient in the prime of her life and, unfortunately, lost her battle to an aggressive cancer,” she added. “Her husband Walt wanted to do something to honor his wife, so he decided to put together a golf fundraiser because it was a sport that he and Mary Jane enjoyed.”
