Fiddler association bands together to save beloved dance hall
McDONOUGH – The Del-Se-Nango Olde-Tyme Fiddlers Association’s dance hall has been a place for community members to come together every weekend for many years. This past year, the much-adored McDonough treasure was forced by misfortune to close its doors due to damages to both its roof and furnace. To save their beloved dance hall and raise the necessary funds, the Del-Se-Nango Fiddlers will be throwing a benefit from noon to six on Sunday at the McDonough Fire Station.
The dance hall has been “sadly missed,” said benefit organizer Geraldine Moore. Attending the dances in McDonough has always been “a nice fun thing for a Saturday night,” she said.
There will be a $5 entrance fee for the dance as well as a $7 barbecue chicken dinner made available to attendees Sunday. For those who aren’t fans of chicken, hamburgers and hotdogs will also be available for purchase.
A Chinese auction will be held in which participants purchase tickets that they in turn enter into individual raffles for goods that have been donated for the event. Another raffle will also be held for baked goods. People of all age groups are encouraged to attend and the Fiddlers will be accepting donations for the repair efforts.
“I for one hate to give up on the club,” said Moore. “I’ve meet so many nice people, it’s like going back in time to visit old friends and family in your hometown.”
With the proceeds raised this Sunday used in tandem with volunteer work from the community, the Del-Se-Nango Olde-Tyme Fiddlers Association hopes to be able to re-open doors next year for its regular season, April through November.
