DVD Patrol
Everyone has their favorite action heroes and we all watched them in our favorite movies growing up. This week I was able to review “The Expendables 2” and it gave me an idea for some great DVDs that you can find on DVD. My three favorite action heroes are Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Bruce Willis. It’s even rare that they are all in one movie together let alone others. I found some of their movies that some might may not have heard of and I had a ball taking a look at each one of them. Check them out and a “Toddster’s Take” on the new movie.
Available on DVD
Lock Up - (1989) (Sylvester Stallone) Stallone plays Frank Leone. Frank was a model prisoner who was able to get out on weekend passes to do what he wanted and to see his girlfriend. At the beginning of the week, though, he returned to prison. He was paying for his mistake and serving his time. His easy time is about to get harder when he gets transfered to a different prison ran by Warden Drumgoole (Donald Sutherland). Drumgoole was an old enemy of Frank’s and now the warden wants to make sure that Frank gets what he has coming to him. At least in his eyes. He’s put in general population and they will make sure that Frank has everything but easy. Frank sees no other option but to escape which is what he did before. Can Frank last long enough to escape?
Raw Deal - (1986) (Arnold Schwarzenegger) Schwarzenegger is an FBI Agent named Mark Kaminski who always did things his way. Doing things his way got him kicked out of the Bureau. Now he’s working as a small town sheriff. It pays the bills. Harry (Darren Mcgavin) was an old friend of Mark’s who thought he needed help and tried to do what he could to help him. At the time he couldn’t do much. All that is about to change. Harry’s son had just joined the FBI and was assigned to protect a witness about to testify against the mob. Harry wants justice and the best way is to call on his old friend who received a raw deal. Harry want Mark to go in and tear apart the people responsible for the death of his son and the witness who could have brought them down. Will Mark get the job done?
Sunset - (1988) (Bruce Willis) It’s funny how make believe and real life always have a way of overlapping. Tom Mix (Willis) was a hero in movies in the late 20’s and everyone loved him. His next picture was going to be about Wyatt Earp (James Garner) and the studio decided to bring in the real thing as a consultant to give the movie more of an old west feel. Tom didn’t like that idea at first but as time went on the two heroes became friends. There going to need that when an old friend of Wyatt’s calls on him for help. She also happens to be married to the head of the studio (Malcolm Mcdowell). His son has been convicted of murder and Wyatt calls on Tom for help to navigate through the Hollywood scene to find the answers they need to crack the case. Are they going to be able to help their friends before it’s too late?
Now in Theaters
The Expendables 2 - Barney Ross (Stallone) and his team reunite for a new mission. Barney has Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Gunner (Dolph Lundgren), Toll Road (Randy Couture), and Yin Yang (Jet Li) back with some new members Billy (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Nan Yu). Mr. Church (Willis) comes calling again to make sure Barney pays him back for botching the last job he gave him. Church sends the team to pick up a computer that contains the location of a cache of Plutonium that could be sold to the highest bidder. Terrorist Vilian (Jean Claude Van Damme) beats them to it and in the process kills Billy. Barney will do whatever it takes to stop him, get the computer, and avenge the life of his friend. Barney might be in over his head on this one. He may need the help of church and his old rival Trench (Schwarzenegger) to crack this mission. Is Barney up to the job?
The Toddster’s Take - Sometimes people are asked what their guilty pleasures are and when it comes to movies and TV, you can get some mighty surprising answers. This one was just one of those for me. You don’t want to admit you saw it but at the end, you’re really glad you did. Some of them might be getting up there in years but they prove they can still get the job done. See it!
These are all great movies and I highly recommend each one of them. Next week we get back on schedule with a whole lot of new DVDs including some new TV collections. The Toddster comes back next week.
