Strong finish to S-E tourney for Norwich

Norwich 3, Ilion 2 (OT)
SHERBURNE – Following a double overtime loss to Sherburne-Earlville Friday, the Tornado showed no ill effects from that defeat winning the tournament consolation game in overtime Saturday.
Norwich scored two goals in the second half, both from sophomore Chris Trevisani. Trevisani’s second goal came on a penalty kick that helped force the extra period. It was a fortuitous bounce, though, that allowed Norwich to prevail.
Cameron Prime’s long throw-in was misplayed in goal, and went into the net for the game-winner. Prime, along with Andrew Layman, were the Tornado’s two selections to the all-tournament team.
“As proud as I was after the Sherburne-Earlville game, I was even prouder after Saturday,” said Norwich coach Steve Prime, whose club had just 10 players available for the second game, one under the prescribed limit. “It was a tremendous tournament for us and some of the best soccer I’ve seen Norwich play in several years.”

S-E second in own tourney
SHERBURNE - Coming off a comeback victory over McGraw on Friday, Sherburne-Earlville fell short in its own championship game getting blanked by Remsen, 3-0.
Erin O’Connor, who scored four goals in an opening-round win over V-V-S, had one goal and one assist for the winners. O’Connor was contained most of the game by S-E defender Kayla Belush with her goal coming after an uncalled offsides by Remsen. Ashley O’Connor and Elisha Hamilton added goals in the win.
“It was an even game in terms of opportunities, but their goalie was a little more experienced than ours,” said S-E coach Kylie Davis. “My team never backed down, came out strong every second, and proved to me that winning every game the rest of this season is completely attainable.”
After a scoreless and sluggish opening half, S-E rallied for three unanswered goals in the second half to beat McGraw, 3-1, on Friday.
Emma Karaman had two unassisted goals, one from 18 yards out into the upper left of the goal, and the other a direct kick into the upper right. Sarah Cole tallied the second goal following an assist from Kelsie Christian. “We were slow at learning to get out of practice speed and adjust to game speed,” Davis said of the first half. “We clearly dominated the second half, and never looked back.”
The Marauders compete in the Hamilton Tournament on Thursday.
