DVD Patrol
How’s Eeverything, Patrollers?! The DVD Patrol is here with a few new DVDs with one special mention. Sadly, we have some sad news to report this week. Actor Michael Clark Duncan passed away and we thought we would throw in a favorite of the Toddsters for a little dedication. The rest of it all is ready.
New on DVD
Safe - Being a hero always carries a price. Luke Wright (Jason Statham) was a proud guy and loved his family. He fought on the MMA circuit for them every time he went out there. The Russian mob steps in and asks Luke to throw a fight but Luke decides to do what he wants and win anyway. That was a bad idea after he comes home and finds his family has been killed. The mob lets him know he’s become a marked man and anyone he gets close to is asking for trouble. For a long time, Luke stays away until he meets a little girl named Mei (Catherine Chan). Mei has a special talent with numbers that make her valuable to the Chinese Triad. She also comes to the attention of the Russian Mob and a corrupt squad of the NYPD who will stop at anything to get a list that Mei has memorized. Luke doesn’t want to step in but he decides enough is enough. Mei needs him and he will do whatever it takes to save her. Can Luke keep Mei safe? Statham can currently be seen in “The Expendables 2” in theaters right now.
Person of Interest - Things that people come up with to help the World don’t always go as planned. After September 11, Harold Finch (Michael Emerson) has developed a machine that can determine people will be involved in some type of crime. The problem with the machine is that the people the machine picks can either be the victim or the ones behind the crime. In the pilot episode, Finch needs help and he recruits a former CIA Agent named John Reese (Jim Caviezel) who has lost his way and Finch decides to help him out. He wants to give a purpose and a reason to live again. They find a lawyer who they think is in trouble. The further they go, it looks like she might not be the one who needs help. Can Finch and Reese find what is going on? Season 1 is available now on DVD and Season 2 starts on CBS September 27 at 9 p.m.

The Hand That Rocks The Cradle - The 20th Anniversary edition of a classic is here. Claire Bartell (Annabella Sciorra) was a stay at home mom who loved her husband Michael (Matt Mccoy) and her daughter Emma (Madeline Zima). She and the family were getting ready to welcome their son into the world. What she didn’t count on was her Doctor having some strange ideas. He manages to hurt her and she decides to report him to the Police. Some of his other patients step up and file charges of their own. The doctor takes his own life and his wife Peyton (Rebecca DeMornay) has a miscarriage. A few months later, Peyton comes calling on the family and applies for the job of a nanny in their home. Things start out pretty good but later go from bad to worse. What plans does Peyton have in store for them and will they be able to survive? Another suspense movie coming to theaters is “House at the End of the Street” starring Jennifer Lawrence on September 21. Catch it if you dare.
Armageddon - This one is for Michael Clark Duncan who passed away this week and we would be remiss if we didn’t give him a special mention. A favorite of the Toddsters has this great actor along with a lot of other greats as they have to save the Earth from an asteroid that’s on the way. Harry Stamper (Bruce Willis), AJ (Ben Affleck), Rock Hound (Steve Buscemi), Bear (Duncan), and the rest of the crew have drilled on every kind of terrain the Earth has had to offer. Now they’re in for a new challenge. NASA has come up with a plan for Harry and his team to fly to the asteroid to drill into it and plant a nuclear bomb so that it will go off and not hit us. The only problem is they have to drill it in time and get off before it blows up. Are Harry and the guys up to the task? A few other favorites of Duncan’s you can find on DVD include “Daredevil,” “The Whole NineYards” (with Bruce Willis and Matthew Perry), and “The Scorpion King (starring Dwayne Johnson”) in stores now.
Before we go, a couple of points of interest. Labor Day Weekend rereleased “The Avengers” and the Toddster was right there. Also, yours truly will be appearing with the rest of The Evening Sun staff on Saturday. If you like to meet the old Toddster, I’ll be there some time after noon. Come on down if you’re in the area. Hope to see you there.
