Letter to the Editor: Conflict of interest?
Editor,
I’m not a resident of Chenango County but I have followed, with interest, the County Court Judge race. I have no doubt that Joe McBride is very qualified and dedicated to his profession. As a father of an attorney myself, I appreciate the long, hard road traveled and commitment it took to achieve his present position as district attorney.
My problem is what I feel will be a conflict of interest as a judge presiding over family court cases in which he previously worked closely as the prosecution (and Department of Social Services) in these cases.
I don’t question Mr.McBride’s integrity. I question how this position cannot be viewed as a conflict of interest?
Mr. McBride worked in the interest of the county prosecution. Now, voters are being asked to place him in the position of deciding such cases.
Lastly, I would like to ask, if he does not win the position of judge, will he retain his position as prosecutor?
