Commerce Chenango to host 9/11 Day of Remembrance Food Drive

NORWICH – In recognition of the 9/11 Day of Service, Commerce Chenango will be holding a “9/11 Day of Remembrance Community Food Drive.” Starting on September 11th, donation boxes will be available at 19 Eaton Avenue in the Eaton Center Lobby and at One City Plaza in Norwich. Non-perishable food item(s) may be dropped off between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Donations can be made up until Sept. 28.
Food items will be dispensed to Catholic Charities in Norwich, and they will serve as a central distribution center that will deliver to other food pantries throughout the County. Catholic Charities of Chenango County served over 25,000 meals and 512 families in the month of August.
In 2009, Congress designated September 11th as a National Day of Service and Remembrance under bipartisan federal law.  September 11th was designated the National Day of Service and Remembrance to honor the victims, survivors, and families of 9/11 through service-oriented programs. The 9/11 Day of Service has come to symbolize the culmination of our nation’s enduring unity— engaging millions of volunteers and communities each year.
Commerce Chenango is looking for at least one company in each community in Chenango County to volunteer to put a food collection box in their place of business. Please call 334-1429 if you would like to help by collecting food items at your business.
