Community hopes to refurbish North Pitcher church
PITCHER – A second organizational meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the North Pitcher Church for those interested in refurbishing the early 19th Century building. The church is located on State Highway 26 in the hamlet.
David Loomis, next door neighbor, hopes the facility can be a place for family and community gatherings such as reunions and weddings. The project got off on the right foot two weeks ago when about 30 people attended an initial gathering to discuss fundraising activities.
Estimates for the work, including a new roof, are about $10,000, Loomis said.
The church has been mostly vacant since the early 1970s.
