Emergency personnel respond to multiple calls over the weekend

CHENANGO COUNTY – County law enforcement, fire crews and emergency personnel were kept busy over the weekend, responding to a number of motor vehicle accidents – including two rollovers – and a pair of structure fires.
At approximately 10:45 p.m. Friday, the Norwich Fire Department and EMS responded to a car versus pedestrian accident at 32 South Broad St. that resulted in minor personal injuries, according to authorities. One individual was transported via ambulance to Chenango Memorial Hospital and it was unknown as of press time if any charges have been filed.
On Saturday – at approximately 5:30 a.m. – the Afton Fire Department, assisted by Cooperstown Medical Transport, responded to a minor one-car accident at 1605 State Highway 7 in the Town of Afton. No one was seriously injured, said emergency officials, and no charges have been filed.
Shortly after 10 a.m., the South New Berlin Fire Department, with traffic control provided by the Mt. Upton Fire Department, responded to a tractor trailer rollover at 2938 State Highway 8 that shut down a portion of the road between State Highway 23 and County Road 33 for more than two hours. No injuries were reported and the driver’s name had not been released as of press time. It is unknown if any charges were filed.
At 7:30 p.m., a fire at 60 South Washington Ave., Oxford – possibly caused by a lightning strike – contained to the roof of the residence was quickly knocked down by firefighters with the Oxford, Norwich and Brisben fire departments. No injuries were reported.
On Sunday, at approximately 12:20 p.m., the New Berlin Fire Department, assisted by UVAC ambulance, responded to a one car rollover at 2111 County Road 25. Patients on the scene were treated by emergency personnel and one person was transported to the Bassett Medical Center with unknown injuries. The cause of the accident is unknown and no charges have been filed.
Shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday, the Pharsalia Fire Department, assisted by Cooperstown Medical Transport, responded to a motorcycle accident which took place approximately half-a-mile south of the Balsam Inn on County Road 8. No patient was found at the scene, however, and the accident is still under investigation. It is believed the victim left the scene of the accident and anyone with information should contact the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office at 334-2000.
At approximately 4:40 p.m. Sunday, the Sherburne Fire Department and Sherburne EMS responded to a motorcycle accident in the parking lot of Gilligan’s Island, 64 North Main St., that resulted in minor injuries. The motorcycle’s operator was treated on the scene and released, according to authorities.
Sunday, shortly before 8 p.m., the New Berlin Fire Department, assisted by UVAC ambulance and the Sherburne Fire Department, responded to a commercial structure fire at The Country Kitchen, State Highway 8 in the Town of New Berlin. The fire was allegedly discovered by a New Berlin Police officer, who attempted to contain the blaze until firefighters could arrive on the scene. The fire is still under investigation, according to emergency officials, and no injuries were reported.
