Morrisville-Eaton 2, S-E 1
SHERBURNE - Morrisville-Eaton unlocked a 1-1 tie scoring with 11:50 left in the opening half to secure a road win over the Marauders Tuesday.
Robyn Latham scored off a Lauren Kellum pass for the winner. Just a few minutes earlier, S-E’s Megan Viera took a rebound off the goalie’s pads and tied the game for S-E. The Marauders stepped up the pressure over the final 30 minutes, but failed to make a dent in the deficit. “After they scored early in the game, we settled down pretty well,” said S-E coach Sheila Cooman. “We really hammered at them in the second half, we just need to be more composed in the penalty circle.”
In Monday’s consolation game of the S-E Tournament, the Marauders won a penalty-stroke shootout over Hamilton in sudden victory as Shelby Scheffler converted for the Marauders.
The game was played to a 1-1 tie through regulation and a 10-minute overtime period. Emma Hodges scored for the Marauders just 6 1/2 minutes into the second half off a Desiree Brown pass. The Emerald Knights forced the OT scoring with just 32 seconds left in regulation.
Brown and the Knights’ Jessica Welsh were the lone shooters to score in five rounds of penalty strokes sending the game to sudden victory strokes. S-E goalie Katherine Robertson stopped six of seven penalty strokes, had nine total saves, and was named to the all-tournament team along with Brown.
“Katherine just had a great game, especially in the overtime,” Cooman said.
