NORWICH – On Wednesday, the Norwich Post office will be the next to host the Civil War Pictorial Postmark. Each town in Chenango County is participating and, so far, each event has been different and interesting. Some postal patrons have discovered they have ancestors who served in the Civil War and want, or already had, their images depicted on the postmarked envelopes. Collectors have been taking advantage of the event by purchasing quantities of the envelopes to save or sell at a later date. In addition to the local interest, requests for the envelopes have come in from all over the United States and around the world. Countries like Germany, Japan, Great Britain, France, Holland, Australia and even a few countries in Africa have sent in their requests and items to be stamped.
