Palmer gets Ward 6 nod
NORWICH – Daniel Palmer came out as the victor in the Republican primary after the final count of absentee ballots for Sixth Ward Alderman on Tuesday, defeating incumbent Thomas LoPiccolo with an 83 to 76 vote.
“I’d like to thank the voters for their support and my family for their patience over the last few weeks of the campaign,” Palmer said in a telephone interview. “I promise to serve the Sixth Ward and the entire community in any way I can.”
The election for a Ward Six Alderman came down to the tally of absentee ballots following last week’s Republican Primary. The race was too close to call Thursday night, when Palmer led with only five votes over LoPiccolo.
The primary win will put Palmer on the Republican line as well as the Independence line on the ballot during the November general elections. LoPiccolo said he plans to keep in tune with city happenings wherever possible, but will not be running as an independent in the general elections.
Palmer will be serving for one year on the city council – the remainder of a two-year term initially held by former Alderman Robert Jeffrey, who was elected City Supervisor in the 2011 elections. LoPiccolo, who was appointed the vacancy on the city council in January, will serve out the rest of the first year. To fulfill an entire two-year term, Palmer will have to run again in 2013.
