BOCES presents 8th annual Marshman-Hall Commitment to Education Award
NORWICH – It’s not often that an organization has the privilege of working with the long-standing leadership of individuals like Dan Marshman and Bob Hall. Both men were so focused on quality, continuous improvement, community collaboration, and, most importantly, students. These two individuals absolutely epitomize the vision, beliefs and quality standards of the DCMO BOCES organization.
Dan Marshman and Bob Hall served their communities and our BOCES in an exemplary fashion. They believed deeply in the power of education. They were convinced that our work at BOCES prepares our youth and our adults to make this area a better place. They gave unselfishly of their time, their ideas, their support, and of themselves. The DCMO BOCES Board of Education commemorates their service through The Marshman-Hall Commitment to Education Award to both memorialize their contributions to our area and to serve as a vehicle for BOCES to annually recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to education in our BOCES region.
The recipient of the eighth annual Marshman-Hall Commitment to Education Award is Carole Stanbro, Principal for Greene Primary School.
Carole Stanbro received this award for having a significant impact on her students and community. She began her career in education as a Special Education teacher at Whitney Point Central School. She started her journey in Greene as the K-2 Principal along with the duty of CSE Chairperson in 1995. The role of CSE Chairperson was made a separate job in 2002 and since then Carole has taken on many other administrative responsibilities. Carole is currently the Curriculum Coordinator for the district.
Stanbro is a very caring individual who puts the best interest of her students and teachers first. She is dedicated to exposing her students to new experiences. She implemented the Morning Program early in her career and has been leading by modeling appropriate behaviors for students, parents, and teachers ever since.
Stanbro is an incredibly effective administrator because she regards herself always as a teacher and a leader. She tirelessly supports teachers and families. She has been known to take supplies to a student or family in need and rally her staff to help too. She started a silent auction in Greene that raises money during the holidays in which proceeds are donated wherever there is a need.
Stanbro lives in Greene and is a very active member of the community. She was an active member of Kiwanis, which brought books and backpacks to Kindergarten students. She is a member of the local Rotary Club and is a huge supporter of the holiday Rotary baskets for needy families. In memory of a retired staff member Carole now heads the Keep Greene Clean Day, which involves both student and community support groups.
Stanbro is a leader that always has her finger on the pulse of what is happening in her school. She likes being on the cutting edge and gets teachers excited about new programs by educating and encouraging them rather than dictating. She is knowledgeable about best practices in education and doesn’t expect more from her teachers than she is willing to give herself. She has built a school atmosphere that is warm, welcoming, and conducive to learning. Parents, students, teachers, and visitors always comment on what a pleasure it is to be in her building.
One of Carole’s biggest contributions to the Greene Central School District is her continuous support of Greene Arts in Education program. Her dedication to this program embodies all the qualities this award is focused on. Carole stepped up to the leadership role at a time when her plate was full, but knew the need for the program’s continuation. She has given her complete support and encouragement to keeping the arts in her classrooms during times when funding has been scarce.
