Letter to the Editor: Revoir accepts nominations, promotes unity
Editor,
On Thursday, Sept. 13, the Chenango County Republicans, Conservatives and Independence Party members had the opportunity to cast their vote in the long awaited primary election. The polls opened at noon; closed at 9 p.m.; and by 9:30 p.m. we began receiving the “unofficial“ vote count. Over the next week, we all awaited the final tally of the absentee ballots. The Chenango County Board of Elections has now certified the results in this tight race. I have been nominated as the candidate to represent the Republican, Conservative, and Independence Parties in the general election for County Court Judge on Nov. 6. It is with great honor and humility that I accept this nomination.
This particular primary election was very unique to Chenango County history. Mr. McBride and I are both well seasoned and experienced attorneys and each is qualified to serve as County Court Judge. Each of us opted to run on the Republican, Conservative and Independence Party lines. This contest, like any primary contest, polarized our respective supporters and gave rise to some preliminary disagreements amongst and between the members of the various parties. This is expected in a close community with a passionate and dedicated voting public. However, with the primary election behind us and a general election just around the corner, it is now time to move beyond our differences and unite. I believe it is in our best interest to fortify support within the ranks of all political parties, including the Republican, Democratic, Conservative, Independence, Working Families and Green Party, to support our common ideologies.
I wish to acknowledge the dedicated and trusted public service Mr. McBride has provided to the residents of Chenango County over the years and for his expected years of service to come. Although campaigning can get tough at times, Mr. McBride and I have always enjoyed a pleasant working relationship and I trust that regardless of the outcome of this primary election (or the general election), we will continue to work together for the benefit of our community. I also wish to acknowledge Diane DiStefano, who ran on the Independence Party line and is now currently running under the Democratic and Working Families Party lines in the general election. I look forward to a vigorous and respectable campaign with Ms. DiStefano for County Court Judge.
Certainly I wish to thank all of the volunteers who tirelessly campaigned on my behalf, my family and friends who provided moral support during a tough battle, my wife and children who have been my greatest supporters of all, and especially the voters who exercised their right to vote and let their voice be heard for Mr. McBride, Ms. DiStefano, and myself during this primary election.
In a final note, I would like to extend my hand to Mr. McBride and those who supported him and ask for their continued support in November. Mr. McBride campaigned tirelessly during the primary and I know many of his supporters feel as passionate as the voters who supported my candidacy. My intent is to move forward and continue to build a people-centered campaign on the notion of inclusiveness and I vow to continue that principle through until Election Day.
Thank you to all. I appreciate your trust and I will honor your support.
