BOYS’ SOCCER
Greene 4, Bainbridge-Guilford 3 (OT)
GREENE - Bainbridge-Guilford threw a mighty scare at Greene Monday afternoon. The Trojans railled from a 3-1 deficit in the second half beating the Bobcats in overtime.
Kurt Bartholomew scored the winner with 5:14 left in overtime after a pass from Karl Zaengle. The win was the ninth straight for Greene (10-1), and head coach Rick Tallman wasn’t sure if his team would make the comeback. “They had a nice game plan and gave us a good test,” Tallman said. “They were in great position to win. They were leading the entire game, luckily we sent it to overtime and were able to put one in.”
Greene’s Alex Leone scored less than two minutes into the game. Over the next 50 minutes, B-G put together three goals on just four shots. Kyle Hanvey, Brooks Harmon, and Adam Bauerle netted tallies for the defensive-minded Bobcats. It took a header from Chris DaCosta to restart the Trojans’ attack.
“It was probably the best header I’ve seen,” Tallman said of DaCosta’s goal. Zaengle sent the cornerkick from the right side to the far side of the net. DaCosta redirected his header inside the near post. Leone’s second goal tied the game with 9:32 left in regulation.
“I’ve looked at B-G’s scores, and they’ve been up and down,” Tallman said. “Maybe we took them a little for granted. They had some real good opportunities and were able to finish.”
Greene is at Unadilla Valley Wednesday.
