Schools of the Past: McDonough District #7, The Old School, Part II
Continuing again this week the photo and article are borrowed from what was written in the April 17, 1955 edition of the Sunday Press (Binghamton). It is quoted as was written. Caption of the article printed below “Brown, 79, to Live in Old School, He attended in Chenango County.”
“Arthur A. Brown, 79, of McDonough, retired store clerk, will make a home of the old school he attended some 65 years ago.
“Mr. Brown does not remember just when he attended the old two-room school in McDonough, but he is in the photograph taken about 1890, he said.
“The school had just been remodeled and painted at the time the photograph was taken. The teachers were Henry Craine and Jessie Arnold.
“Built in 1823 it was about 67 years old then and now is about 132 years old. But it still had sound lumber and timber, Mr. Brown said.
