DVD Patrol

Just having fun, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol is here on business as usual. The Toddster hopes everyone enjoyed our teamup last week and we found a few with a little something for everyone. There is also talk of a new one for next week, but more on that later. Let’s see what we see!

New on DVD

Dark Shadows - Be careful who you make angry because it doesn’t always go well. Back in 1752, Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp) was a playboy and had everything he could ever want. Angelique (Eve Green) always had her eye on him but he has eyes for other ladies in town. Barnabas decides to reject her and he doesn’t know it but she is secretly a witch. For that, she curses him. He becomes a vampire and is buried for 200 years. He wakes up to the year 1972 to find that everything he had and all the people he had known were gone. Barnabas meets Elizabeth (Michelle Pfieffer) along with her family. The Collins estate has fallen on hard times and there might be a way to fix that. Will Barnabas help the family find a way to make things better or are there other things ahead? Depp is getting ready for his next role when he plays Tonto in “The Lone Ranger” coming in July 2013. (Jeff also loved this movie)

People Like Us - We all find things we don’t expect. Sam (Chris Pine) was a talented salesman who needed a break and decides to go home. Sam learns that his Dad has died and now he has to put his affairs in order. One of those things was that $100,000 was left, but not to him. It was left to Frankie Davis (Elizabeth Banks) who Sam finds out is his older sister. How do you tell someone that you’re related to them? It’s not an easy one but he knows he has to do it. How will Sam and Frankie relate to one another? Pine is currently at work on “Jack Ryan” and will return as Captain James Kirk in “Star Trek: Into Darkness” set for release next Summer.

Also on DVD

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (Part 1) - Cartoon Spotlight is here and the caped crusader returns for an all new adventure. Bruce Wayne had retired from crimefighting and Batman had been gone from the public eye for ten years. Things are beginning to happen to make him come out of retirement. His old enemy Two Face has returned to get revenge on his old friend Commissioner James Gordon. Also, a street gang called “The Mutants” has been laying claim to the streets and now has all the citizens running in fear. Can Batman make a difference again? It will be continued but Part 2 comes to stores in the spring.

New in Theaters

House At The End of the Street - Getting a new start isn’t always easy. Elyssa (Jennifer Lawrence) and her Mother Sarah (Elizabeth Shue) needed a new start and they move into a new house. The neighborhood has a history and the house next door had a family living in it where the young girl living there had killed her parents. The only surviving member was her brother Ryan (Max Thierot). Elyssa had always tried her best to fix things that may not be too fixable. She meets Ryan and things start out all right but things go wrong when her mother meets Ryan and suspects something isn’t quite right with him. Elyssa decides to find out for herself what he might be hiding. Is Elyssa going to be able to find out what that is?
The Toddster’s Take - I always try my best to give movies a chance and I do my best to sit all the way through them. That being said, I really didn’t like this movie at all. The plot jumped all over the place, it was hard to follow, and things that should have made sense didn’t come until it was too late. Lawrence and Shue are terrific talent, but this just wasn’t the place for it. Take a look if you want but I wouldn’t waste the time again.

We’ll take a look at some of the new shows on TV next week and some returning ones with a TV teamup coming up in a few weeks. The weather is getting colder but the patrol will be around. Until next week, the Toddster shall return.
