Open house at Artist’s Palette Saturday

NORWICH – The Artists’ Palette announces their final artist reception of the 2012 season and open house Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. at their new location at 29 South Broad Street.
The open house kicks off at 4 p.m. with a sidewalk art competition open to all ages. Prizes will be awarded, one per age group, for a total of four prize categories. The entire family is encouraged to attend, as there will be activities for all ages. Activities include face painting, caricature drawings, a children’s fall themed craft project and various games. Local author
Cathy Holden Robinson, will also be on hand to share her journey of tragedy and joy, and sign copies of her newly released romantic comedy, “Becoming Mona Lisa.”
Following the open house, artists, Leah Mealing of Norwich and Michael Sheridan of Otselic will showcase their combined talents in a multi-media show titled “Chenango Magic.” Sheridan, an oil painter, captures historical landmarks and the beauty of nature throughout the area, while Mealing’s work varies from drawing and painting, to sculpture, and covers a wide range of subject matter. The show, taking place following the open house, will be held 6 to 8 p.m. and will feature several new works from both artists.
“We are going to have something for everyone and something for every budget,” said Mealing. Mealing and Sheridan will also be raffling off original works and will both have smaller pieces available.”
Weather permitting, Jill Kraft, owner of the Artists Palette, says she plans to display art outside and hopes for a good turnout for the sidewalk art contest.
“I remember doing sidewalk art when I was a child in the downtown parks and I would really like to see that continue. I would also like to invite people into the shop to see what services are offered. I offer a lot more than just art supplies.”
There is no cost to enter the sidewalk contest, but those interested are encouraged to sign up in advance. All activities are open to all ages. For more information call The Artists’ Palette at 244-1445.
