Greene’s football coach reinstated
GREENE – A Greene Central School press release issued late Friday made public the news of head football Coach Tim Paske’s reinstatement, effective today.
“Following several meetings and meaningful discussions, the Greene Central School District and its Varsity Football Coach, Tim Paske, have reached an understanding regarding an on-going personnel issue. Mr. Paske will resume his head coaching responsibilities Monday, Oct. 15,” the press release stated.
Although the statement did not reveal the exact nature of the issue leading to Paske’s suspension beyond calling it an “on-going personnel issue,” it has been rumored the matter involved the football team’s lack of participation in the school’s homecoming parade.
Announcement of the suspension last week came as a surprise to the community and many quickly rallied in support of Paske at last week’s school board meeting. As of this morning, a Facebook page created in defense of the longtime coach had reached over 1,000 likes as community members strove to show their resolve to stand behind the coach.
Though the decision to reinstate Paske was reached Friday, after Superintendent Jonathan Retz sat down with the coach, Paske still did not participate in the Trojans game this weekend against Whitney Point. Even without Coach Paske on the sidelines, the Greene Trojans were still able to pull off a win with a final score of 22-6 in their favor.
