Committee meets to discuss courts office space needs

ORWICH – A special committee formed to study the additional office needs of New York’s Sixth Judicial District met last month with court administrators and has already received a response back from them regarding a list of nine possible venues in the county’s seat.
The Chenango County Board of Supervisors made known earlier this summer that it was considering the acquisition of the former Morrisville State College building on North Broad Street to accommodate the court’s space needs.
The committee is comprised of Chenango County Board of Supervisor Chairman Lawrence Wilcox, county Treasurer William C. Craine, Ward 1,2,3 Supervisor of the City of Norwich, James J. McNeil, and Supervisor Ross P. Iannello, New Berlin, and Charles Mastro, supervisor of Sherburne.
Wilcox said the committee would review the court’s office and court space guidelines, the different scenarios and how they would affect reimbursements, and whether renting, owning or building was preferable.
“We will use these tools for the committee to zero in on or rule out the possibilities,” Wilcox said. He did not say when the committee would met next.
