Date set for comment on 2013 budget plan

NORWICH – A public hearing of the Chenango County 2013 draft budget has been set for 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 27 in the supervisors’ chambers in the County Office Building in Norwich. The public is invited to speak.

The tentative plan complies with the state’s 2 percent cap on property tax increases. It calls for a tax increase on average of 30 cents, or $12.84 per $1,000 of assessed value. The levy would raise $24.3 million on appropriations of $86.7 million for government programs and services, or 2.46 percent more than in 2012 . (Individual tax rates will depend on total assessed property values and state-established equalization rates in each of the county’s 22 municipalities.)

The draft budget would eliminate 2.5 jobs, provide funds to pave more miles of county roads, and reduce the amount of general fund surplus that would be applied from $3.08 million this year to $2.90 million next year.
