Milford Academy closes with win over Navy JV team

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Milford Academy finished its 2012 season with back-to-back wins over the Army and Navy JV football teams, the latter contest a thrilling 23-17 overtime victory over the junior Midshipmen last weekend.
After failing to score on its overtime possession, Milford’s defense ceded ground to Navy, and were defending at the four-yard line with victory seemingly imminent for the Midshipmen. On an option pitchout, Falcons linebacker Witchie Exilhomme intercepted the pitch and raced 96 yards the other way to give his club an improbable victory.
The Falcons, who lost three of four midway through the season, finished a 7-4 campaign with three straight victories. “We had won 22 in a row, and I think some of the guys thought the scholarships were just going to fall right of the sky,” said head coach Bill Chaplick. “That thinking lasted about 3 1/2 minutes, and they realized who they were playing against. If they didn’t play the way they were capable, they were going to get beat.
“We made some changes and finally snapped out of it. We got things going in the right direction, and started to play Milford Academy football.”
The Falcons fell into a 10-0 hole at halftime to Navy, but strung together 17 straight points. Quarterback Patrick Dill, inserted in the second half, completed his first eight passes leading his team on two scoring drives, and running back John DiStefano’s 70-yard scoring run gave Milford Academy a 17-10 lead.
Milford Academy hosts its annual late-fall combine on Monday, Nov. 26. Representatives from colleges across the nation are expected to attend.
