COOPERSTOWN - Sherburne-Earlville upended defending Section III Class C champion Cooperstown Tuesday on the road in its first test this season against Center State Conference competition.
Austin Jasper and Sam Caton led a strong S-E fourth quarter to break away from a 36-36 tie. Jasper had 11 of his game-high 26 points in the final stanza, and Caton bucketed six on his way to a 12-point game. It was Caton’s first game of the season after missing the first two contests due to injury. “Those two (Jasper and Caton) play off of each very well,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard. “It’s easier for the both of them when the other one is in the game.”
S-E (2-1) hosts Sauquoit Valley on Thursday.

Chenango Valley 76, Oxford 32
CHENANGO BRIDGE – Oxford coach Tim Davis summed up Chenango Valley in three words following his team’s lopsided loss: “They’re pretty good,” the Blackhawks mentor said.
Zach Collins hit a three-pointer late in the first quarter to give CV an 11-6 lead. From there, the Warriors poured it on finishing with 10 three balls on 19 attempts. Collins, Chris Ruffo, and Matt Personius had seven points apiece in a 21-5 second quarter to extend the home team’s lead to 21 points.
Ruffo led with 21 points and Collins added 19 markers. “They upped the tempo enough so that we weren’t getting good shots, and we turned it over a bunch,” Davis said.
Andrew Golden scored 21 points for Oxford (1-1), who are idle the rest of this week.

Bainbridge-Guilford 54, Laurens 45
BAINBRIDGE – Bainbridge-Guilford did most of its damage to Laurens in the second quarter, and improved to 3-0 on the season beating the Leopards Tuesday evening.
Leading by four after one period, the Bobcats raced to a 19-5 period to lengthen its margin to 18 points at the halftime break. “We were aggressive and played the way we want to play all of the time,” said B-G coach Greg Warren of the second quarter. “We just didn’t put it together for four quarters.”
B-G senior Corbin Palmer was 14-for-15 from the foul line for all of his points, and he added seven rebounds and seven assists. Austin Bauerle also scored 14 points and added 12 rebounds. Tyler Johnson chipped in with 11 rebounds, while Brooks Harmon scored 11 points and pocketed four steals.

BROOKFIELD – Brookfield pulled away in the fourth quarter to hand Otselic Valley its first loss of the season Tuesday night.
Jake Cowen poured in 25 points to lead the Beavers, who led by only two points entering the final quarter. “They just played with a better level of intensity throughout the game,” said OV coach Dave Loomis. “We tried to spread our defense out in the last quarter, and they took advantage of that.”
Trevor Marston scored a season-high 18 points to lead the Vikings, who host Stockbridge Valley Friday.

SOUTH OTSELIC – Sauquoit Valley won its opening game of the season Monday at Otselic Valley racing to a 32-8 lead at halftime.
Morgan Talma led with 14 points and Brianne Cardillo chipped in with 13 for SV.

OXFORD – Coming off a strong showing this past weekend at the Clyde Cole Tournament, Oxford followed that up with a convincing victory over Deposit Tuesday night in its dual meet opener.
Bryan Simpson earned a pin at 160, and three straight forfeits combined with a Garyn Huntley pin at 220 had the ‘Hawks up 30-0. Also earning pins were Joe Nelson (113), Austin Crandall (138), and Nik Hansen (152). Jody Smith won a major decision over Devin Decker at 145 pounds, 14-2.
