Car-bus crash sends four to hospital

SOUTH NEW BERLIN – The South New Berlin Fire Department – assisted by the New Berlin Police Department and New York State Police – responded to a collision involving a car and school bus shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, which resulted in four students being transported via ambulance to UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital with unknown, although minor, injuries.
According to South New Berlin Fire Chief Kevin Christian, the accident occurred on state Highway 8 in the area of Pat Farley Road, which was shut down to traffic for approximately half an hour as emergency personnel worked the scene.
The school bus, said Christian, was struck in the rear, and the four students – who were not identified – were transported to the hospital “basically for evaluation” purposes. Added Christian, “Better to be safe than sorry.”
The Unadilla Valley Ambulance Corp. and New Berlin Ambulance both responded to the scene.
