Otselic Valley 54, Blessed Virgin Mary 45

SOUTH OTSELIC – A strong fourth quarter aided by 8-for-10 foul shooting lifted Otselic Valley to its second win over Blessed Virgin Mary this season Monday night at home.

Trevor Marston scored 11 of his 14 points in the final quarter, while also playing shut-down defense on BVM’s leading scorer, James Payne. Payne had 18 points in the two schools’ first meeting, but just two last night.

“We’ve had trouble scoring all year, but tonight we did a better job getting the ball to the basket and getting the ball in places where we can score,” said OV coach Dave Loomis. “We’ve been hurrying our shots, but our judgement on shot selection was much better.”

Connor Smith also keyed a 25-14 final period scoring all eight of his points off the bench. Jason Olin added 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Matt Neal poured in a dozen points as well.

OV (5-2) is idle until Dec. 27 when it plays in the DeRuyter Tournament.
