Supervisors go into executive session to discuss public health nurses’ union contract
NORWICH – What was supposed to be a short executive session to discuss a labor contract turned into a discussion that ensued for about a half an hour on Monday at the end of the Chenango County Board of Supervisors’ second meeting of 2013.
Lawmakers discussed the expired New York State Nurses’ Association contract that represents the nine nurses who are employed by the Chenango County Public Health Department. The previous contract, which was for three years, expired on Dec. 31, 2012. No decisions were made following the executive session.
The RNs employed by the county received 3 percent increases in 2010 for each year during the previous agreement. The contract gave increases in the differential for working the evening shift, an increase in uniform allowance and an increase in funding for the staff development fund. The nurses were also able to carry over more vacation time when asking for permission, and had greater access to family sick leave.
