... And winter’s back
CHENANGO COUNTY – Snow covered roadways, icy in some areas, led to a number of accidents this morning, according to authorities, who blamed heavier snow in the southern parts of the county – and earlier snowfall – for the dangerous conditions.
The first accident was reported shortly after 5 a.m. on Basswood Road in the Town of Oxford, a rollover involving one car that resulted in no injuries. Over the next five hours, emergency personnel responded to at least eight more accidents, including a pair on I-88 in both Afton and Bainbridge – one a rollover – as well as accidents on County Road 27 in the Town of Coventry; South Washington Avenue in the Village of Oxford; the intersection of State Highway 206 and Hartman Road in the Town of Greene; Afton Lake Road; State Highway 8 in the Town of Bainbridge and – most recently as of press time – the intersection of State Highway 12 and Tyner Road.
