S-E student charged after school search

SHERBURNE – A 17-year-old Sherburne-Earlville student has been charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, following a search at the Sherburne-Earlville middle and high schools conducted last week by members of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and its K-9 patrol, joined by members of the Town of New Berlin Police Department and its K-9 patrol.

Requested by the school district and its administration, units conducted searches of the schools’ book lockers and locker rooms for the purpose of detecting illegal narcotics on school property, according to authorities, and the 17-year-old student was charged after a quantity of marijuana was allegedly discovered inside his locker. The youth was issued an appearance ticket and will appear in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date.
