Drug bust nets 100 pounds of marijuana, $36,000 in cash

SHERBURNE – Following a month-long investigation into the alleged sale of marijuana from a Sherburne residence, the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, assisted by the Village of Sherburne Police Department, executed a “no knock” search warrant yesterday at 476 Pleasant Valley Road.
Narcotics detectives arrested Robert R. Reynolds, 52, of 476 Pleasant Valley Road, charging him with criminal possession marijuana in the first degree, a class C felony. A search of Reynolds home revealed several items of concern, including approximately 100 pounds of high-grade, processed marijuana. In addition, the Sheriff's Office seized more than $36,000 in cash and an estimated $17,000 in personal property, such as scales and other drug paraphernalia. A conservative estimate of the drugs' street value is thought to be more than $100,000.
This is not Reynolds first brush with the law. In 2008, he was sentenced to two and a half years in state prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal possession of marijuana in the second degree, a class D felony. It was alleged that Reynolds, in 2007, engaged in a gun fight with a home invader, shooting dead Joshua D. Richheimer, 32, formerly of Pittsfield. Following an investigation into the disappearance of Richheimer, Reynolds was found to be in possession of three to four pounds of marijuana leading to his conviction in 2008.
Prior to the 2007 shoot-out, Reynolds had already built up an extensive rap sheet of drug related crimes and – during the subsequent investigation – admitted to police that he was a known drug dealer.
The estimated 100 pounds of marijuana seized Thursday is quite possibly the largest take the county has ever seen from a local dealer and, if convicted, Reynolds could face up to eight years in state prison.
“It’s a significant amount of drugs and part of our ongoing efforts to combat the drug trade [in Chenango County],” said Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting Jr., who added the large quantity of confiscated drugs represents a giant step forward in that struggle. “It’s a huge amount of drugs taken off of the streets and we are going continue working to keep drugs off of the streets.”
An investigation continues and further arrests are pending, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
