Del-Se-Nango Dance Hall re-opens under new management
McDONOUGH – The perseverance and hard work of the Del-Se-Nango Olde-Tyme Fiddlers Association has paid off as its members prepare for Saturday’s grand re-opening of the group’s dance hall.
Damages wrought on the dance hall’s roof and furnace forced the building to shut down last year and prospects for the Olde-Tyme Fiddlers Association looked bleak indeed. Yet after a year of fundraising, the association was able to – with the help of numerous volunteers – replace the dance hall’s main roof. Many community members pitched-in money and time to not only buy the necessary materials, but also to put it to use, fashioning and repairing their beloved space.
“We've completely revamped the place,” said the association’s new president, Geraldine Moore.
The association conducted three fundraisers to pay for repairs, however more work is needed to complete the replacement of the building’s defunct furnace.
“The dance hall is truly a family place for good family entertainment and we always have a live band every Saturday,” added Moore.
The dance hall will host its annual Square Dance Colors Contest during the first weekend of May. The weekend will commence with a regular dance that Saturday, followed by a Sunday afternoon barbecue and square dance. The competition reportedly draws crowds from far and wide and this year, along with a 50/50 drawing, a new John Deer lawn cart will be given away as a prize.
Bands are already scheduled to perform Saturdays throughout the summer and the dance hall will remain open until its November Christmas party, which caps off each season. Throughout the year, the association traditionally hosts a number of fundraisers for other organizations, such as cancer awareness groups and Toys for Tots.
“It’s not a fancy place, but it has always been my favorite place to go,”said Moore. “The people are all so friendly and everyone always treats you like you were a long lost friend.”
Moore went on to describe the Del-Se-Nango’s atmosphere as one of comfort where everyone smiles had has a good, old-fashioned time.
